The Executive of China has expressed this Friday its opposition to the latest sanctions announced on Thursday by the United States against two Chinese companies, accused of collaborating with the Armed Forces of Cuba, by considering that these decisions violate the principles of International Law and involve interference in the bilateral ties between Beijing and Havana.

At a press briefing, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Guo Jiakun, has defended the legitimacy of relations between both countries and has stressed that cooperation between China and Cuba is carried out in a "completely transparent" manner.

Asked about the new restrictions announced the day before by the U.S. Treasury Department, which attributes to the sanctioned companies the supply of electronic and security equipment to the Cuban Armed Forces, Guo has criticized Washington's use of unilateral sanctions and of the so-called "extraterritorial jurisdiction".

Along these lines, he has insisted that these measures have no basis in International Law and has stated that their purpose is "to hinder and sabotage cooperation between China and Cuba," while warning that China will take "all necessary measures" to safeguard the rights and legitimate interests of its companies.

Pekín's reaction comes after the U.S. Treasury Department said on Thursday new sanctions against two people, five companies --including the Chinese Beijing H and C Technologies CO, dedicated to the telecommunications sector--, two and two vessels, as part of the Trump Administration's campaign aimed at Cuban authorities.
