The until now leader of the Democratic minority in the United States Senate, Chuck Schumer, has assured the public that “help is on the way” following the historic victory won by his party in this Tuesday’s legislative elections, in which the Democratic Party has gained control of both chambers of Congress and has achieved, in particular, a result “against all odds” in the Upper House.
Schumer has emphasized that Democrats do not intend to submit to Trump’s wishes or the president’s warnings about his ability to use the executive veto against any legislative initiative advanced by his party.
“People voted for change and now Democrats must keep their word. And we are going to keep it, with or without the president,” the veteran senator from New York stressed.
The Democratic leader has also expressed his gratitude to the candidates from his party who have managed to turn around the seats necessary to wrest control of Congress from the Republicans. “They had better opportunities, but they ran out of patriotism, because they knew their country needed them and that they were the best candidates for their state,” he said.
To conclude, Schumer sent a direct message to the Republican Party. “I hope Republicans learn the lesson they haven’t seen until tonight: listen to the American people.”
