Ireland’s public broadcaster, RTÉ, had to evacuate its main headquarters this Friday after receiving a bomb threat by email, in a context of the spread of similar warnings that in recent days have affected airports and flights in different parts of Europe.
RTÉ itself has explained that all corporation staff, “including presenters,” were forced to leave the building as a precautionary measure. This forced departure has caused changes to the schedule, which has been interrupted to make way for previously recorded segments.
At the same time, the Irish police have indicated that they are aware of threats aimed at various media outlets both in Ireland and in other European countries and that they keep investigations open into the incidents detected within Irish territory.
The notice sent to RTÉ adds to the wave of threatening emails that on Thursday affected around a dozen flights between European airports, including three routes that departed from Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport or had the Spanish capital as their destination.
In recent weeks, Northern Ireland has also been caught up in this type of incident, after hundreds of schools received false “Islamist” alerts in which they were warned about the alleged placement of explosive devices on educational premises.
