The Ukrainian authorities have reported this Tuesday an attack against a medical complex in Kharkiv that has left at least 73 wounded and has forced the transfer of up to 226 patients to other hospitals.
The shelling has hit a corridor between the buildings of a medical institution in the Nemishlianski district, in the eastern area of the regional capital, as the governor of Kharkiv, Oleg Sinegubov, explained in a message on social media, where he pointed out that all those affected are already being treated.
However, the impact has damaged more infrastructure in the city, as the mayor, Igor Terejov, also detailed on social media, who, after reporting a "combined attack with ballistic and anti-aircraft missiles," indicated that the shelling has destroyed more than 1,000 windows both in the medical center and in nearby buildings.
The latest count was offered by the president of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelenksi, who has raised the number of wounded to 73 and specified that the cardiology department, where the victims were being treated, was hit squarely.
The Ukrainian leader has framed this attack within the 289 drones, 17 ballistic missiles and 59 cruise missiles launched by Russia during the night, underscoring that the main target were energy infrastructures, with strikes against facilities and substations in the regions of Odesa, Cherkasi, Yitomir, Vínnitsia, Kharkiv, Dnípro, Chernivtsi, Chernígov and Rivne. "In many cities and communities, emergency and unscheduled power outages are underway", he affirmed.
Russian offensive in the midst of the electoral process in the United States
According to Zelenksi, it is "revealing" that this Russian offensive is taking place while the United States is holding the midterm legislative elections, in which Donald Trump is gambling the political stability of the final stretch of his term.
"The Russians believe that the United States will not pay attention to this signal from them. But such terror must be taken into account and stopped. Ukraine must be helped to defend its skies; otherwise Russia will never stop its missile attacks", he affirmed.
In this way, he has once again addressed Washington in order to be able to "build peace honestly and reliably". "The United States can do it", he added, insisting that one cannot remain silent in the face of Russian attacks.
