The Belgian justice has informed of the discovery of the body of a child on an embankment in the province of Namur, in the south of the country, a finding that occurs while the search for Tyméo Brigou, 5 years old, and his father, Bryan Brigou, 29, continues, of whom nothing has been known since June 27.
According to the statement released by the Namur Prosecutor's Office, the Federal Judicial Police found the corpse on August 24, after receiving "a new testimony collected in the framework of the investigation." Although the minor has not yet been officially identified, the elements collected at the scene suggest that it could be Tyméo Brigou.
After the discovery, the authorities have cordoned off the area with a judicial exclusion perimeter and have launched a broad police and scientific operation, in which "the investigating judge, the Prosecutor's Office, the Federal Police, and the Missing Persons Unit" are involved. The autopsy of the body is scheduled for this Wednesday.
For now, both the circumstances and the cause of the child's death are unknown, and despite the deployment of resources, the investigators have not managed to find the father, whose whereabouts remain unclear.
In its note, the Public Ministry has emphasized that "the investigation keeps all hypotheses open," just as it has since the beginning of the proceedings almost two months ago, when the disappearance of father and son was reported.
