The authorities of the United States have activated a security alert directed at Mexicali, in the state of Baja California, and have ordered the suspension of the work of their diplomatic personnel in this border city after receiving information about a "potential threat," without providing further details for now.

In a brief statement, the Embassy of the United States in Mexico has indicated that "due to information about threats, U.S. government activities in, and travel to, Mexicali, have been suspended this August 25" in this locality in the northwest of the country.

In that message, U.S. authorities advise their nationals to "avoid government buildings in Mexicali" and "seek shelter in case of incident," as well as "follow the instructions of Mexican security forces," while, for the moment, Mexican institutions have not issued a public reaction to the notice from Washington.
