The Iranian Foreign Minister, Abbas Araqchi, issued a warning this Thursday about "Israeli machinations and 'false flag' operations" following the fire that affected two gas tankers in the port of Damietta, Egypt, supposedly caused by drones.
"We must all be alert to Israeli machinations and 'false flag' operations aimed at undermining regional peace," he stated in a message shared on his social media, in which he referred to Egypt as an "important friend and partner" of Iran.
Araqchi emphasized that Egypt's security "is of paramount importance" to Tehran and warned that the "threat is clear and common" given the risk that the current conflict in the Middle East, which has already lasted five months, could expand.
"There are fears for the solidarity of Muslims," added the head of Iranian diplomacy.
Araqchi's words come after Egyptian authorities attributed the fire that broke out on Wednesday in two gas tankers in Damietta to drones, without currently pointing to any responsible party for the attack, while the Houthi rebels from Yemen, supported by Iran, have distanced themselves from the incident.
According to the Damietta Port Authority, the port continues to operate normally and all terminals and docking points maintain the scheduled entry and exit traffic of ships, as reported by the newspaper "Ahram".
The initial alert was issued by Egypt's Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, which detailed in a statement that the affected vessels were "a gasification ship and a storage ship docked at the port of Damietta".
Hours later, the President of the United States, Donald Trump, when asked about a possible connection of the incident with the war in the Middle East, simply pointed out that the attack "is more of the same".
