The Mexican authorities have intensified security measures in several areas of the state of Morelos after the murder of two students from the Autonomous University of the State of Morelos, including the 21-year-old Spanish woman Claudia Tacoronte, which occurred at the beginning of September.
The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, confirmed this reinforcement in an appearance before the media, in which she specifically referred to the municipality of Cuautla, located about 50 kilometers from the state capital, where Tacoronte was fatally attacked with a knife.
The head of the Mexican Executive also explained that during the day she has ordered coordination with the authorities of Morelos to define new measures for the prevention of violence, after events that she has described as "very regrettable and sad," also emphasizing that "there are already several" students who have died due to violent episodes.
In this context, she has requested the Secretary of the Interior, Rosa Icela Rodríguez, to establish contact with the rector of the University, Viridiana León, and with the governor of Morelos, Margarita González, as well as "with the students, to see how greater prevention actions can be taken" after these homicides.
