The Cuban journalist and activist Yoani Sánchez has recovered her freedom in the last few hours after having been detained this Thursday by security forces in Havana, according to what the dissident herself has reported through a message shared on social media.

"I just got home, thanks to everyone for the solidarity and for spreading the arbitrary detention I suffered this morning. It was that support that managed to move the locks and open the bars," she has said, the director of the independent portal 14ymedio, who has announced that this Friday she will provide details of what happened and will denounce "the pain and the complete lack of protection" in which other detainees find themselves in the cells, where they lack public visibility.

Sánchez’s arrest took place at around 9:30 a.m. (local time) on Thursday, when she was intercepted by State Security agents as she left her home in the municipality of Plaza de la Revolución.

Before being held incommunicado, she managed to send a brief alert message to her coworkers. Since then and for several hours, her whereabouts were unknown, which triggered a rapid backlash from international organizations such as Amnesty International, which denounced the violence of the arrest and accused the Government of Miguel Díaz-Canel of trying to silence independent journalism on the island.
