The president of Romania, Nicusor Dan, announced this Sunday the downing of a new unmanned aircraft in the country's airspace, the third in just three days, and has ordered the Russian ambassador to be summoned for consultations after the Romanian Prosecutor's Office determined that the first drone shot down on Friday corresponded to a model used by the Russian Army in the war in Ukraine.

"The downing this Sunday occurred at 10:13 this morning over the Romanian territorial waters of Sulina by an F-16 from the Romanian Air Force," Dan explained in a message shared on social media, in which he immediately adds that "the drone shot down on Friday morning was of the 'Shahed' type, used by the Russian Federation in the war of aggression against Ukraine."

Visibly upset by the repetition of these episodes, Dan has described it as "unacceptable and intolerable that the Russian Federation continues to violate the airspace of Romania, which is, at the same time, NATO and European Union airspace."

In response, the head of state has ordered the filing of a formal complaint by summoning the Russian ambassador this Sunday, who has not yet provided any assessment of what happened, along with an additional protest that will be delivered by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Oana Coi, once the investigations into the origin of the other two downed drones are completed.
