The Russian authorities have incorporated this Friday into their register of "foreign agents" the news channel Jodorkovski LIVE, promoted by the well-known opponent Mikhail Khodorkovsky, exiled since 2013, along with two journalists linked to the project.
The Ministry of Justice of Russia has justified the inclusion of this digital medium by claiming that it spreads "false information" about institutions and the Army, with the aim of building a "negative image" of the Russian Armed Forces.
Furthermore, the department has directly pointed to Khodorkovsky, whose YouTube channel has over 3.4 million subscribers, for his involvement in the distribution of materials produced by other "foreign agents" already included in Moscow's official list.
In the new update of the register, the Ministry has also added Maria Mikaelian, whom it accuses of the same activities and, specifically, the dissemination of "false information about decisions and policies of Russian government agencies."
"He opposed the special military operation in Ukraine and participated in anti-Russian protests abroad. He collaborated with an organization included in the list of foreign and international organizations whose activities are considered undesirable in the Russian Federation," the ministry added.
The list of designated individuals is also expanded with Valery Klepkin, who is additionally attributed with "expressing opposition to the special military operation in Ukraine and promoting LGBT relations," recalling that the LGBTI movement is banned in Russia and is included in its catalog of terrorist and extremist organizations.
