The Armed Forces of Saudi Arabia have communicated this Monday that they have managed to intercept and destroy several drones launched from Iraqi territory, in an action they have described as "terrorist" and which occurs amid rising tension in the Middle East.
General Turki al Malki, responsible for the international coalition led by Riyadh in Yemen, has explained in an official note that the latest devices were targeting oil facilities located in Saudi Arabia, with a special focus on the eastern region of the country and the capital, Riyadh.
"These terrorist attempts come from Iraqi territory and have been carried out by terrorist militias affiliated with Iran, which reaffirms Saudi Arabia's legitimate right to defend itself and defend its capabilities, and thus reserves the right to respond at the appropriate time and place," he stated.
In recent weeks, Saudi Arabia has reported the downing of dozens of missiles and drones launched by Iran and affiliated groups at various points in the region, following the start of the offensive undertaken by Israel and the United States against the Asian country. Tehran has responded with airstrikes on Israeli territory and against targets linked to the United States in the area, including several military bases.
