The Colombian Navy has communicated the seizure of 1.5 tons of cocaine hydrochloride in the Meta River, located on a vessel that, according to initial investigations, was heading towards Venezuelan territory.
"A vessel transporting approximately 1,500 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride, distributed in 38 bundles, was intercepted," the Navy explained in a statement indicating that the drug could have been sold for about 80 million dollars.
On the boat were two individuals who, upon detecting the presence of military units, brought the vessel to the shore, abandoned it, and fled.
Subsequently, the forces transported the ship to a safe point, where personnel from the Judicial Police of Anti-Narcotics carried out identification tests of the substance, which confirmed a total of 1,498 kilos of cocaine.
The shipment would have come from the La Primavera-Nueva Antioquia-La Venturosa corridor and had as its initial destination Venezuela, where it was allegedly going to be received by an armed commission of the Eastern War Front of the National Liberation Army (ELN) guerrilla. Authorities do not rule out that the route continued afterwards to markets in Central America and Europe.
