The European Union expressed this Saturday its "deep concern" over the rise in violence in the West Bank and has called for restraint following the wave of attacks recorded in recent days against several localities in the area, attributed to Israeli settlers.
"We want to express our sincerest condolences to the families of the deceased and wish a speedy recovery to the injured. Today's events are a reminder of the fragility of the situation on the ground," indicated the spokesperson for the EU's External Action Service, Anouar El Anouni, in a statement.
In this regard, the spokesperson urged all parties involved to "avoid the use of incendiary language, contribute to reducing tension, and put an end to this vicious cycle of violence."
The Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, ordered on Friday to reinforce the presence of the Army in the West Bank following the serious disturbances recorded in the town of Tell, where an attack by Israeli settlers resulted in the death of four Palestinians and two Israelis, and announced the creation of new "outposts" for settlers, despite even Israeli legislation prohibiting them, as well as the legalization of those already existing.
The announcement came amid an increase in assaults against communities in the West Bank. In addition to the four Palestinian victims from Tell, another Palestinian was stabbed in Jericho and remains in serious condition, after several settlers attacked him when his car broke down on a road.
