The Houthi insurgency of Yemen has accused Saudi military aviation of causing the deaths of 20 people and leaving another 15 injured this Friday in a small market in the Taiz governorate, one of the areas most heavily affected by the resumption of the conflict that has been ravaging the country for more than ten years.

The military spokesperson for the rebels, Brigadier General Yahya Sari, said that the Saudi attack, an ally of the Yemeni government displaced to the city of Aden since the Houthis took control of Sanaa in late 2014, struck squarely the Al Hadara market at around 07:10 local time.

According to Sari, the aircraft involved, an F-15 that departed from the Saudi base of Jamis Mushait, was bombing the area for almost an hour, until it returned to its original base at around 08:00 in the morning.

Soon after the spokesperson’s appearance, a senior official of the Ministry of Health controlled by the Houthis, Dr. Anis al Asabhi, detailed to the insurgents’ semi-official agency, Saba, the figures of victims of the bombing, which could increase in the coming hours due to the extensive destruction recorded in the area.

The international coalition against the Houthis, led by Saudi Arabia, has not, for now, offered any public reaction to what happened.
