The United States Army has reiterated this Sunday that navigation in the Strait of Hormuz "flows normally" and has denied that Iran has proceeded again to the closure of this strategic corridor, as proclaimed on Saturday afternoon by the authorities of the Islamic Republic, coinciding with the start of a new exchange of bombings between both countries.

In a statement disseminated on social networks, the Central Command of the United States Armed Forces, CENTCOM, has underlined that "The Strait of Hormuz is open to all vessels wishing to legally transit this international maritime route" and has subsequently stressed: "Iran does not control the strait. Maritime traffic flows normally."

Hours earlier, the Joint Operational Command of the United States and the United Kingdom had indicated that the southern route of the strait not only remained operational but had recently been expanded, although it urged merchant ships to maintain maximum caution during their passage.

CENTCOM also points out that, in the last two months, its forces have contributed to the safe passage of more than 800 vessels and more than 400 million barrels of crude oil, and that in the last week more than 140 ships have crossed the strait.
