The Government of the United States has communicated the launch of a new package of sanctions against "multiple entities, individuals, and vessels" that it holds responsible for "facilitating the destabilizing activities" of the Iranian Executive, just hours after making public the start of its commercial offensive against the Islamic Republic.
According to the official note released by the State Department and signed by its spokesperson, Thomas Pigott, "the United States has taken strong actions against multiple entities, individuals, and vessels that facilitate the destabilizing activities of the Iranian regime."
The statement details that these behaviors encompass "attacks against U.S. forces and their allies in the region, illicit acquisition of weapons, cyber intrusions into U.S. infrastructure, and the trafficking of energy products whose sale finances terrorism globally."
The new punitive measures are aimed, first of all, "against Iranian military officials responsible for the acquisition of weapons and the direction of attacks against U.S. military personnel and regional partners, entities based in Iran that gathered intelligence to attack U.S. forces and their allies, and a supply network that provided to Iran's military and missile programs."
According to the explanatory document published in parallel by the State Department, among the high-ranking officials named are the commander of the Revolutionary Guard, Ahmad Vahidi; the head of the Aerospace Force of the Revolutionary Guard, Hosein Majid Musavi Eftejari; the chief of the operations headquarters Jatam al Anbiya, Alí Abdolahi; the commander of the Iranian Army, Amir Hatami, and the spokesperson of the Ministry of Defense, Rezsa Talaei Nik.
"They are also directed against a cyber group led by the regime, responsible for extensive intrusions into critical U.S. infrastructure," adds the U.S. diplomacy, which identifies in that text the "Cyber-Electronic Command of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard."
The scope of the sanctions also extends to "a large group of carriers and agents that move Iranian oil, as well as petroleum and petrochemical products, through the United Arab Emirates, China, Singapore, and Europe to finance the Quds Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, designated by the United States, and other elements of the regime," according to the official note.
The announcement of this sanctions package, which concludes with "a call to the international community to join" Washington "in the task of holding these actors accountable," comes just after the start of the Trump Administration's commercial offensive against Iran. In this context, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has warned that he will impose sanctions on all states that maintain trade relations with the Asian country, including China, with the declared aim of achieving total isolation of the Iranian economy.
