The president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, stated this Sunday that Kiev "is interested in bringing the war to an end" with Russia, on the eve of a meeting in the Ukrainian capital with the envoys of the president of the United States, Donald Trump, who held meetings in Russia on Saturday to address the conflict.
"We met with our negotiating team before the meeting with the envoys of the president of the United States. We are prepared for dialogue," Zelensky pointed out, emphasizing that "Ukraine has always been and will continue to be constructive." "We are interested in bringing the war to an end," he insisted.
In a message disseminated on social media, the leader stressed that "peace is needed" and added that "security guarantees are also needed" and "a dignified peace in the post-war period." "Our proposals are ready. It is important to work in a coordinated, substantive, and realistic manner," he reiterated.
Hours earlier, Kremlin advisor Yuri Ushakov explained that the U.S. delegation led by Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner presented several proposals to Russian President Vladimir Putin on Saturday in an attempt to channel a solution to the war in Ukraine.
"The American representatives prepared thoroughly for this trip. They not only expressed their traditional interest in a quick cessation of hostilities but also formulated several ideas on possible avenues for resolution," he indicated, before specifying that Moscow "emphasized the need to address the root causes of the conflict."
Witkoff and Kushner arrived in Moscow on Saturday on a U.S. military flight to convey a proposal aimed at ending the war, as Trump had previously indicated. Subsequently, they are scheduled to travel to Kiev on Sunday to hold meetings as part of this new diplomatic attempt to end a conflict that began in February 2022 following the invasion order signed by Putin.
