The leader of EH Bildu in the Basque Parliament, Pello Otxandiano, has assured that the results of the Andalusian elections confirm, also with a view to the next general elections, the trend towards PP and Vox governments and, at the same time, the “rise of sovereignist lefts”.

In statements to Tele7 collected by Europa Press, Otxandiano has pointed out that the PP has not achieved an absolute majority due to a “determining factor”, referring to the “result of Adelante Andalucía”.

In his opinion, the Andalusian elections consolidate a trend that would have already been reflected in the last regional elections held in Extremadura, Aragón, and Castilla y León, where, as he indicated, “the PP governs with Vox”.

“And this surely also defines the playing field for the next general elections. I believe that PP-Vox is a bloc, and based on the political trends that are occurring, the only way for the PP to govern after the next general elections will be with the support of Vox, either through a coalition government or from the outside,” he stated.

The leader of the Basque party has also highlighted the “very significant” result of Adelante Andalucía, which, in his opinion, reflects “another trend that is occurring in the European context”, such as “the rise of sovereignist lefts”.

“In the recent municipal elections in the United Kingdom, it has been seen, both in Wales and Scotland, that sovereignist lefts have tailwinds. It is also seen in favorable polls for Sinn Féin, and it has been seen in the recent elections in Iparralde,” he pointed out.

According to Otxandiano, in a global context marked by “uncertainty” and “insecurity”, citizens “seek protection and security in the community and in kilometer zero, proximity policies”, which is why he considers that “sovereignist lefts are rewarded in the different elections”.

“In Euskal Herria, I believe that EH Bildu, as an expression of the sovereignist left in our country, is the one that captures the attention of young men and women in terms of voting. I believe that at the moment the left-wing political offer that is capable of presenting an alternative to the ideological policy of the right is, in large part, the sovereignist left of the different nations of the State,” he stated.

For Otxandiano, in Catalonia, Galicia and Euskadi these formations are the ones that “guarantee that there is no such penetration of the ideas of the right and the far-right”, as well as that their parliamentary representation continues to be “minority”.
