Carlos Cuerpo rules out closing the high-speed line Madrid-Barcelona during the renovation works

The new head of Transport assures on La Séptima that the rail service between the two cities will not be interrupted. His statement comes after Óscar Puente considered that possibility and subsequently leaned toward making it possible to coordinate the works with the circulation of trains

The first vice president of the Government and new head of the Ministry of Transport, Carlos Cuerpo, has assured this Thursday in an interview with La Séptima that the Madrid-Barcelona high-speed line will not be closed in order to carry out the planned renewal work on the infrastructure.

Cuerpo’s statement comes after several days of uncertainty about the future of one of Spain’s main rail connections. His predecessor, Óscar Puente, had acknowledged that the Government was considering the possibility of temporarily suspending traffic in order to speed up the works, although he later clarified that the Executive preferred to keep the service running while the work was carried out.
