The spokesperson for Esquerra Republicana (ERC) in Congress, Gabriel Rufián, has stated that he is "willing" to lead the space to the left of the Socialist Party and run as the head of the list in the next general elections scheduled for July 2027.

"If my presence can help, I am willing. Of course," he indicated this Wednesday during an event organized by the Siglo XXI Club and reported by Europa Press, although he insisted that the different progressive formations must agree on who will be the main figure of that common project.

The republican leader has highlighted the impetus of left-wing forces "rooted in the territory," citing CHA in Aragon and Adelante Andalucía as examples. Of the latter, he highlighted the campaign of its candidate, José Ignacio García, which he praised as a reference for the type of message that, in his opinion, the left should adopt.

Asked if leading such a candidacy would distance him from ERC, he recalled that his party "has always taken responsibility for what happened beyond its borders" and stressed that he has no intention of leaving the party: he assured that he will not leave "until they throw him out."

Conditions for repeating as ERC's head of list

Rufián explained that he has conveyed a series of "conditions" to the ERC leadership to run again as number one in next year's general elections, although he avoided specifying what those internal demands are.

In relation to his relationship with Oriol Junqueras, leader of ERC, he admitted that they do not share the same position "on everything" and that at times they want to "kill each other," but he stressed that he will "never" say "a bad word about him" because it would be "a scoundrelly act."
