The President of the PP and candidate for the Presidency of the Government, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has said this Sunday that, if he reaches La Moncloa, he will review the rail transport system “palmo by palmo” so that “security returns” to this public service. He has insisted that he “will not put urgency above security” and has called the collection of bonuses by Adif executives “vomitous” just a few days after the accident in Urda (Toledo).

Feijóo addressed this issue during his speech at a major pre-campaign event in Málaga, before some 6,000 people according to the organizers, in which the President of the PP-A and of the Junta of Andalusia, Juanma Moreno, also took part.

In his address, he has promised to allocate “the money of the Spanish people to review every sleeper, every kilometer of catenary, every track” with the aim of making sure that “there is no fear” among citizens when using the train.

“From then on, what I will not dedicate it to is paying bonuses to the Adif executives who have caused this rail disaster,” he said, demanding that the bonuses received be returned, since, in his view, it is not possible to “reward” after the 115 fatalities from rail accidents.

“Let them return it if they have an iota of dignity,” he demanded, criticizing that new deficiencies had been detected in the same stretch of track as the incident in Adamuz and that “the Government’s response is none.”

The PP candidate for the Presidency of the Government has stressed that 32,000 people use “the Andalusian AVE” every day and has defended the need for a “complete audit.” He has reiterated that, “before recovering normal service,” it is essential to “guarantee safety one hundred percent” and, therefore, if he governs, he will not put “a date ahead of security.”
