King Felipe VI has brought to an end the intense week of the Ibero-American Summit held in Madrid, keeping a meeting with the President of Bolivia, Rodrigo Paz, one of the heads of State who participated in the event held this Wednesday and Thursday in the capital.
The meeting took place at the Palacio de la Zarzuela, to which Paz traveled after the monarch presided at the nearby Palacio de El Pardo over the ceremony for the handover to the Ibero-American General Secretariat (SEGIB) of the Fórum Europa Prize 2026, as well as the closing of the XXX Summit, which has brought together in Madrid a dozen Ibero-American leaders.
Felipe VI, who has known Paz since his time as a student at Georgetown University (Washington), has personally received the Bolivian president upon his arrival at Zarzuela. Next, both of them went to the Audiences Hall, where the official photograph was taken and they greeted the members of their respective delegations.
Subsequently, they held a meeting in the King’s office, in which the head of State was accompanied by the Secretary of State for Ibero-America, Susana Sumelzo. On the Bolivian side, the Minister of the Presidency, Fernando Hugo Aramayo, and the Minister of Economy and Public Finance, Christian Andrés Morales, attended, as Zarzuela reported. Once the meeting was over, Felipe VI offered Paz a private lunch.
The meeting this Friday constitutes the second face-to-face between the two leaders, after the King traveled to La Paz last March to interview the Bolivian head of government, whose inauguration took place in November 2025 one day before the start of his State visit together with Queen Letizia to China.
