Hundreds of residents of Ceuta have gathered this Thursday in the Plaza de los Reyes, in front of the Government Delegation, to show their rejection of the massive entry of immigrants that the city is experiencing and the way in which the different administrations are facing this crisis.
The protest, which arose spontaneously through social networks, has been gathering participants as the hours go by and it is expected that the number of attendees will grow even more starting at 8:00 PM, the moment for which a new call to the citizens has been launched to concentrate again in front of the headquarters of the General Administration of the State.
Since the early afternoon, the Plaza de los Reyes, where the Government Delegation has set up a coordination center to monitor the situation, has transformed into the main meeting point for the protesters, who demand a firmer response to the migratory crisis that Ceuta is going through.
Throughout the concentration, slogans directed both at the central Executive and at the Government delegate in Ceuta have been chanted. Among the most repeated slogans, shouts like "Government resignation" have resonated, in addition to other messages against the President of the Government and the Government delegate, Miguel Ángel Pérez Triano.
The attendees have also expressed their discomfort towards the National Police agents deployed in the area. At different moments in the afternoon, they have reproached them for their presence there and urged them to move to the border to reinforce the control of access to the city.
Tension has increased with the departure of the President of the Autonomous City, Juan Vivas, who left the Government Delegation accompanied by the Minister of Presidency and Governance, Alberto Gaitán. As he crossed the plaza, several protesters hurled reproaches at him, which triggered a new wave of whistles and slogans against the central Executive.
After the first concentration, part of the attendees continued the protest by walking through several streets in the city center, while another group opted to remain in front of the Government Delegation.
The calls, spread mainly through social networks and messaging applications, have been repeated throughout the day, always setting the Plaza de los Reyes as the nerve center of the meeting.
