The Podemos candidate for Congress, Irene Montero, has defended the importance of having "a strong state left" by considering that "only" with the nationalist and sovereigntist forces "is not enough" to carry out "deep transformations".
Before holding a meeting with shellfish gatherers and workers in the maritime sector in Vilagarcía de Arousa (Pontevedra), the leader of the purple party has underlined before the media that "social force" calls for "deep and radical transformations" in a system that, in her view, "is organized to guarantee the business of a few".
"To make those deep transformations, the sovereigntist or nationalist forces are not enough", the Podemos leader, who in Catalonia will stand in the elections together with Esquerra Republicana (ERC), has reiterated.
At the same time, Montero has called on the whole of the left to "be strong" and keep "strengthening political forces" that are not going to "give up" and that "will fight until the last second in order to be able to carry out those transformations". In this line, she has stressed that Galicia "also needs Podemos".
Podemos, "the most reliable option"
In a previous appearance before the press in A Coruña, Irene Montero has presented the purple party as "the most reliable option" to defend "just causes" and fight "all the battles".
Asked about her expectations of obtaining representation in Galicia, the also MEP has pointed out that in the institutions, associations and unions "where there is a Podemos representative" there is someone who "will always keep hope intact" that things "can be changed".
Furthermore, she has stressed that "everyone sees" that it is necessary "to have in the institutions people who are going to defend that the problems come from above" and who dare to say "the things that almost nobody dares" because, she added, "it has a political cost".
"We need to redistribute wealth and we need to protect rights, public services, turn a system that is prepared to do business and for a few to concentrate more and more wealth into a system where money goes down and reaches families. And for that Podemos, I think everyone knows that it is the most reliable political option", she has emphasized.
Along this line, he has used as an example the "battle" of the Inditex workers who "face much more powerful forces", along with the demands of the early childhood educators, the teaching staff or the metal workers.
"In all parts of the Spanish State there are people who are fighting despite the fact that they know they are facing much more powerful forces. Only by fighting can one at some point manage to win and live lives that are worthy for all people. That is our battle in the elections and beyond the elections", he has praised.
Criticism of record corporate profits
On the other hand, he has questioned "what good is it" that large companies like Inditex obtain "record profits" if this is achieved "at the expense of workers' rights".
"What everyone expects in a decent and democratic country is that if a company is doing well, that means that the country is doing well and that the workers who create those profits, who create that wealth with their work, are also doing well", he has stated after listening to the demands of the employees of the textile multinational, accompanied by the leader of Podemos in Galicia, Isabel Faraldo.
