The Vox spokesperson in the Parliament, Joan Garriga, has pointed to the Minister of Territory, Housing and Ecological Transition of the Generalitat, Sílvia Paneque, as the main person responsible for the fire declared this Friday in La Bisbal d'Empordà (Girona), and has announced that his party will demand "immediate resignations".
From Malgrat de Mar (Barcelona), where he appeared this Saturday, he expressed that he "deeply" regrets the consequences of the fire, which in his opinion represents a great heritage loss, and has conveyed his recognition to the emergency services for the work carried out on the ground.
He stressed that the intervention that would have originated the fire —some work with an angle grinder on a road— should not be attributed to a specific operator, but rather that "it is the fault of the concessionary company and the Generalitat of Catalonia, which is directly responsible for the concession".
Garriga has lashed out against what he considers the underlying causes of this type of incident and has assured that those responsible for these fires "are European policies" which, he added, have led to the disappearance of the countryside and favor the expansion of forest areas and the gain of land.
In the same vein, he has maintained that "progressive ideology" hinders the creation of more firebreaks and intervention on the natural environment to clean it up, which, in his opinion, makes it difficult to stop the spread of fires like the one in La Bisbal.
