The socialist sector of the coalition Executive maintains its position unchanged regarding the judicial investigation affecting former Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero. Following the interview he gave this Thursday on TVE, the Government has reiterated the need to respect his presumption of innocence and his right to exercise defense.
During his television appearance, Zapatero denied having pressured to rescue Plus Ultra, explained that the jewels found in the safe of his office correspond to a "personal courtesy gift," insisting that he did not intend to defraud, and denied having used his daughters as front men.
After listening to the former secretary general of the PSOE, in Moncloa they have limited themselves to stating that they continue to "express the same as in recent weeks" regarding the allegedly criminal activities attributed to Zapatero.
Last Tuesday, the Government spokesperson, Elma Saiz, emphasized that the Executive continues to trust in Zapatero's innocence, although she avoided commenting on the "different versions and defense strategies" of his former partner in the company Análisis Relevante, Julio Martínez Martínez ('Julito'), as well as other individuals investigated in the 'Plus Ultra case'.
