The Minister for Digital Transformation and Public Function, Óscar López, has accused this Saturday the leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, of fueling "conspiracy theories" by linking the so-called Law of Grandchildren to a supposed electoral strategy of the Government aimed at modifying the census.

From Almagro, where he attended the International Classical Theatre Festival, López was asked about the latest statements by the popular leader and stressed that the PP once again casts suspicion on the functioning of the democratic system, "as it already did," with postal voting in previous elections.

"They are returning to conspiracy theories," reiterated the minister, who accused Feijóo of "putting on the bandage before the wound" and of already referring to his "next electoral defeat."

The so-called Law of Grandchildren is integrated into the Law of Democratic Memory and opens the way for descendants of Spaniards who were forced into exile or who lost their nationality for political, ideological, belief, or sexual orientation and identity reasons to obtain Spanish nationality.

"It is intolerable that a governing party, such as the PP, is delegitimizing the rule of law, the Spanish electoral system, and Spanish democracy," the minister censured.

López has defended that Spain is "one of the best democracies in the world" and has stressed that the Spanish electoral system is "one of the most robust" and "one of the best" internationally.

In his opinion, the controversy generated around the Law of Grandchildren falls within the same strategic line of the PP of adopting the political frameworks of the far-right, also on migratory and electoral issues. "That was typical of a far-right party, not of the PP," he concluded.
