The president of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has warned that "difficult and complex hours" are coming due to the rise in temperatures from the new heat wave and has called for "understanding and caution" from the population in light of the high risk of fires affecting the country.

The head of the Executive made these statements during his visit to the Advanced Command Post (PMA) activated by the fire in Vall d'Uixó (Castellón), which has already burned 6,500 hectares, has a perimeter of 48 kilometers, and has forced the evacuation of more than 16,000 people, in addition to keeping about 65,000 confined in several nearby towns to the Serra d'Espadà.

In this scenario, Sánchez has acknowledged the work of the media and has urged citizens to follow information only through official sources, against the "falsehoods" circulating on social networks. Likewise, he has requested those who have been evacuated or remain confined due to the advance of the fire to have "patience and understanding," emphasizing that the priority of the National Civil Protection System is the protection of human lives.

The president has pointed out that, so far this year, more than 170,000 hectares have already burned in a dozen large fires in Spain, which represents a sixfold increase compared to the figures recorded in the same period of the previous year. Therefore, he has called for "extreme caution and prevention" in light of the increase in temperatures expected in the coming days by the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET).

Sánchez has stressed the need to be prepared for the "climate emergency" that "is surpassing all levels" and has reiterated his commitment to a great political and social agreement for a state pact that allows for coordinated measures among all public administrations.
