The Comuns have expressed their discomfort with the decision of the ERC spokesperson and future candidate of the formation for the elections on November 29, Gabriel Rufián, not to integrate into Frente Amplio, a space that sought to concentrate the left vote in these elections.

The reaction of the Catalan organization comes after ERC has ratified Rufián as the head of the list for the upcoming general elections, after intense negotiations between the different progressive forces.

Last Friday, the former mayor of Barcelona, Ada Colau, one of the figures considered as a possible candidate for Frente Amplio, publicly invited Rufián to join this project promoted by the Comuns, Más Madrid, IU, and Movimiento Sumar, appealing for him to exercise his leadership to complete the unification of the left at the state level.

From the Comuns, they have shown their respect for Rufián continuing under the ERC initials, but they emphasize their regret that "he did not want to participate in the construction of a left-wing Frente Amplio to maximize the options to stop and defeat the right again as was done in 2023."

In this sense, the formation has emphasized that "The Comuns remain committed and actively working for the articulation of a state-level Frente Amplio that responds to the expressed will for unity," making it clear that they will continue with contacts to consolidate this common space.
