The mayor of Hoyocasero, in the province of Ávila, Iván Picós, from the Partido Popular, has made public a statement in which he condemns the appearance, on the town hall balcony, of a cardboard coffin with the photograph of Pedro Sánchez. At the same time, he has formalized a complaint before the Guardia Civil so that what happened can be investigated and the responsible parties can be located.
According to what the mayor himself has detailed, the events took place in the early hours of October 31 to November 1, when one or more still unidentified people installed on the façade of the Town Hall a coffin made of cardboard in which an image of the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, was shown. Picós has described what happened as "absolutely lamentable, inadmissible and incompatible with respect and democratic coexistence".
At the time the incident occurred, the mayor of Hoyocasero was not in the municipality. It was one of the councilors who informed him of what happened and, after being informed, he held a conversation with the two councilors of the corporation. By mutual agreement, they decided to remove "immediately" the coffin placed on the balcony.
Iván Picós has emphasized that, since what happened became known, the response of the government team was "coordinated, agreed upon and immediate" between the Mayor's Office and the two councilors. In addition, he has indicated that, "given the seriousness and nature of the events", it was decided to file a complaint before the Guardia Civil with the aim that the facts be clarified and it be determined who their authors are.
The mayor has insisted that political disagreements "can never justify lack of respect, intimidation, personal disqualification or actions that attack the dignity of people or democratic institutions".
In the same vein, he has stressed that, above any ideology, political group or difference, "respect, education, legality and democratic coexistence must always prevail". He has likewise defended that Hoyocasero is a town made up of people "hardworking, respectful and committed to coexistence".
The statement concludes by recalling that "Institutional respect is not a question of political acronyms, but of democratic principles. And those principles, from the Mayor's Office of Hoyocasero, we are going to defend always, whoever governs".
