The Minister of Culture and number 2 of Frente Amplio for Barcelona to the Congress, Ernest Urtasun, has assured this Sunday that, if a progressive government is revalidated, the first decision they will push for will be to demand that the PSOE focus railway investments on Rodalies on a priority basis.
Urtasun made this commitment during the event "El Baix Llobregat cap a la vaga general de l'11N", held in Sant Feliu de Llobregat (Barcelona), in which he took part along with the candidate for mayor of the municipality, Lídia Muñoz, and the secretary of the pensioners' federation of CC.OO., Aurora Huerga.
In his speech, he criticized that "1,330 million euros" are already assigned to the project promoted by the former Minister of Transport of the Government, Óscar Puente, with the objective of reaching 350 kilometers per hour on the AVE, while shortcomings persist in the commuter rail network.
As an example, he pointed out that "The Manresa-Barcelona train currently takes exactly the same as in the 19th century, more than an hour and a half. And this is an absolutely intolerable disgrace", thus denouncing the deterioration of the service and the lack of modernization on this line.
Urtasun's criticism of Feijóo and his pacts with Vox
The minister also went after the leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, in line with an interview published in "El País", in which the popular leader maintained that it did not depend on him whether Vox would be part of the Government. Urtasun replied that Feijóo "once again, lies".
He recalled that "He wants to govern with Vox; he has already decided; he governs with Vox in many autonomous communities", and he set this PP strategy against that of other European right-wing parties, which, in his view, continue to maintain a sanitary cordon against the far right and refuse to make pacts with it.
As he defended it, a good result for Frente Amplio at the polls will be key to stopping the entry of the far right into the Executive: he said that, if his political space manages to secure broad support, "Vox will not be in the next Government of Spain", and he warned that a possible Government chaired by Feijóo would mean the repeal of the housing decrees approved in this legislature.
In this line, he has warned of the consequences that, in his view, a right-wing Executive would have: "Someone who ignores the main social problem of the country like housing, someone who justifies and supports the return of censorship, and someone who wants to return and open the door to the Francoists to the Government of Spain is someone who is a danger to this country and who does not deserve to govern," he has concluded.
