A migrant of Algerian origin died this Friday in the settlement of the Trampolín beach, in Ceuta, after collapsing in the vicinity of the shower area set up for the people who remain there after the entries from Morocco at the end of July.
The death occurred around 2:30 PM, in an area near the Guando factory. For the moment, the causes of death are unknown. The mentioned media identifies the victim by the name of Amaar.
Health workers tried to revive him
The man was in the vicinity of the showers when he collapsed. The people who were in the settlement then began to call for help and activists from an NGO started the resuscitation maneuvers.
Subsequently, an ambulance arrived and the health workers continued trying to revive him for approximately an hour, according to the account of elDiario.es. Finally, the medical services confirmed his death.
One of his companions explained to the same media that the man had some health problems, without specifying which, and that this Friday he had begun to feel unwell. This testimony does not allow determining the cause of death, which has not yet been established.
A collective prayer to say goodbye
About a hundred migrants gathered around the place while the health services tried to save the man, with police officers deployed in the area.
After the doctors certified the death and covered the body, the victim's companions spontaneously began a collective prayer to say goodbye to him.
For approximately five minutes, those present performed Muslim prayers around the place where the deceased was located. The deployed officers did not intervene during the ceremony.
Migrants continue living on the beaches of Ceuta
The death occurs while part of the migrants who entered Ceuta from Morocco at the end of July continue living in precarious settlements in different parts of the autonomous city.
Last week, Spanish authorities relocated about 1,700 migrants who were in the settlements of the Benítez and Trampolín beaches to the temporary camp set up by the Government in the port of Ceuta.
In both settlements, it was estimated that more than 3,000 people remained, so part of the migrants still continues on beaches and other spaces in the city.
The informal settlement of Trampolín arose after the entries at the end of July. On July 31, the security forces concentrated and cordoned off part of the migrants who had accessed Ceuta in this area and, subsequently, improvised structures began to be erected to stay there.
Since then, numerous migrants have remained at this point waiting for their situation to be resolved, while the administrations have been enabling temporary reception resources.
The death recorded this Friday occurs in that context, although for the moment there is no information that allows linking the death with the conditions of the settlement and the authorities have not yet communicated the cause.
