The Autonomous City of Ceuta has confirmed a case of monkeypox in a 13-year-old Moroccan minor who arrived in the city during the mass entry on July 30 and 31. The diagnosis was confirmed this Thursday and the minor remains isolated in one of the reception centers set up by the city.
The minor is under the guardianship of the Autonomous City and remains isolated in the center to avoid possible infections. The diagnosis was confirmed after health services detected the case and carried out the corresponding tests.
11 cases of chickenpox and eight of tuberculosis
The new diagnosis is known on the same day that the Minister of Health, Mónica García, visited Ceuta to analyze the health situation generated after the mass arrival of migrants. García reported that 11 cases of chickenpox have been confirmed among the people who arrived in the city and raised the number of tuberculosis cases to eight, three more than the five previously known. Two of the people with tuberculosis are hospitalized.
The minister also pointed out that more than 3,000 migrants have already been vaccinated and that all minors have been registered health-wise. The reinforcement deployed by Health includes 99 additional professionals, distributed among hospital emergencies, outpatient care, and Primary Care.
The hospital maintains differentiated circuits
García defended that the healthcare pressure resulting from the arrival of migrants is being managed through differentiated circuits and assured that four of the 34 services of the University Hospital of Ceuta have endured special pressure: Emergencies, Preventive Medicine, Pediatrics, and Internal Medicine.
The minister estimated the hospitalization rate of the migrants treated at 1.8% and assured that currently an average of 2.5 more patients are admitted per day than on the same dates of the previous year. She also stated that the hospital has more resources and professionals than before the start of the migration crisis.
The case of monkeypox confirmed this Thursday is thus incorporated into the epidemiological monitoring that health authorities maintain over the minors and adults who arrived in Ceuta during the migratory episode at the end of July.
