The General Director of Agricultural and Livestock Production, M.ª Àngels Ramón-Llin, has highlighted the strategic role of the nurseries in the Valencian Community and of the Valencian Association of Wine-Vine Nursery Entrepreneurs in the evolution of the wine sector, "both for their capacity to produce vine plants and for their contribution to the quality and health guarantees of the plant material that reaches agricultural holdings".
Ramón-Llin made these statements during the opening of the II Wine and Gastronomy Fair of Aielo de Malferit (MALFEVID), a trade fair which, as the Generalitat has indicated in a statement, has the participation of 14 wineries and 10 restoration businesses from the municipality.
The person responsible for Agricultural and Livestock Production stressed that "Aielo de Malferit and la Vall d'Albaida are a benchmark in the production of vine plants".
At present, the Valencian Association of Wine-Vine Nursery Entrepreneurs brings together 115 nursery operators who generate, annually, tens of millions of cuttings and more than 40 million vine plants. This volume accounts for around 70 percent of the vine plants produced in Spain and serves to supply plant material to vineyards in different areas of the country.
M.ª Àngels Ramón-Llin also referred to the importance of plant health and detailed the work carried out by the technical services of the conselleria of Agriculture in the nurseries, through on-site inspections, verifications of the genetic and health quality of the plant material, and sampling included in contingency plans against diseases. "Work that makes it possible to guarantee that the plants marketed have the corresponding phytosanitary passport".
Along these lines, Ramón-Llin specified that "plant health in 2026 has a budget of 40 million euros", and she emphasized that "also this year the payment of the third call for aid has been settled, aimed at strengthening the biosecurity of the nurseries, with a cumulative investment of almost 5.6 million euros across the three calls".
Finally, the managing director has expressed her recognition to the Asociación Valenciana de Empresarios Viveristas de Vid and to the City Council of Aielo de Malferit "for their involvement in the organization of MALFEVID and their contribution to consolidating a fair that brings together the wine-growing, wine-making, and gastronomic sector, brings its products closer to citizens, and highlights the economic activity and the tradition of the town".
