The Government of La Rioja has launched an extraordinary campaign for the collection of expired phytosanitary products, which will run until November 17. The initiative is aimed at allowing farmers to dispose of these unused products, guaranteeing safe removal and proper management.

The Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural World and Environment, Noemí Manzanos, announced this Wednesday the campaign together with the Director General of Agriculture and Livestock, María Jesús Miñana, and the mayor of Alfaro, Yolanda Preciado.

During her intervention, Minister Noemí Manzanos underlined the relevance of this action for the Rioja countryside, noting that "this campaign responds to a need identified and conveyed by our farmers; with it we offer a practical, free and safe solution to remove from farms substances that require very controlled management, reaffirming the commitment of the Government of La Rioja to the protection of the environment and ongoing support for the agricultural sector".

The campaign focuses exclusively on the removal of products that can no longer be used because they have expired, have lost their authorization, or have been withdrawn from the market, provided they are in their original containers and with contents.

The regional Executive emphasizes that this action is different from the ordinary collection of empty phytosanitary containers (SIGFITO), for which specific management channels already exist.

Collection points and calendar by municipalities

With the purpose of facilitating the participation of agricultural professionals, the campaign will run from today until November 17 in 18 Rioja municipalities that are collaborating as authorized drop-off points.

The participating town councils are: Cervera de Río Alhama, Alfaro, Tricio, Santo Domingo de la Calzada, Murillo de Río Leza, Ausejo, Aldeanueva de Ebro, Logroño, Alberite, Casalarreina, Haro, Autol, Medrano, Fuenmayor, San Vicente de la Sonsierra, San Asensio, Arnedo and Tudelilla.

The minister emphasized that delivery "does not entail any cost for the farmer and is anonymous".

To ensure the proper functioning of the device, an authorized managing company, specialized in this type of waste and contracted by the Consejería de Agricultura, will be responsible for the collection, transport and final treatment of the products, complying with all the technical, environmental and safety guarantees required by current regulations.

Complete information on the campaign calendar, the participating municipalities, the schedules and the exact location of the collection points is available on the Government of La Rioja website: https://www.larioja.org/agricultura/es/agricultura/campana-extraordinaria-recogida-fitosanitarios-caducados.
