The publication this Tuesday in the Official Bulletin of the Province (BOP) starts the deadline for cattle ranchers of extensive and semi-extensive bovine farms in Guadalajara to apply for the new line of aid from the Diputación aimed at the purchase of collars with "virtual fencing" function.
The call was approved in the Government Board on July 14, although its release in the BOP was postponed due to the fire declared two days later in the Sierra Norte. As communicated by the provincial Institution through a press release, this postponement was decided to allow ranchers to first address the most urgent needs and incidents arising from the fire before processing the applications.
This is the second consecutive year in which the provincial Diputación launches these subsidies, which have a budget allocation of 300,000 euros. The objective is to support extensive and semi-extensive bovine farms by incorporating technology that improves the management of livestock and its protection.
The collars with "virtual fencing" function are devices that, placed on the animals, allow determining their location from a mobile phone or other device, delimiting grazing areas and monitoring the movements of the herd without the need to install traditional physical fences.
This support line was promoted by the Government team of José Luis Vega in the year 2025 with the main purpose of providing holders of bovine livestock farms an effective tool to carry out preventive actions against possible wolf attacks. In addition, its usefulness has been confirmed for regrouping and safeguarding animals in emergency situations, such as the large forest fire that affected the Sierra Norte last July.
Who can apply for the aid and requirements
Those who can benefit from these subsidies are the holders of cattle farms in extensive or semi-extensive regime located in the province of Guadalajara. These farms must be registered in the General Register of Farms (REGA) on the date of publication of the call in the BOP.
The aid will be granted on a competitive basis until the available credit of 300,000 euros is exhausted. Up to 80% of the total cost of purchasing the virtual collars will be subsidized, with a maximum limit of 270 euros per collar (VAT not included).
Subsidies will be granted for the purchases of collars made throughout the year 2026, from January 1 to December 31. The deadline for farmers to submit their applications will be 15 working days counted from the day after the publication of the call in the BOP.
In the first edition of this aid line, corresponding to the year 2025, 18 cattle farms in the province benefited, which have already incorporated this "virtual fencing" technology into the daily management of their herds.
