The Health Counselor, César Pascual, has ratified in Parliament, in response to the socialist deputy Raúl Pesquera, that the Sierrallana Hospital will incorporate a new unit with between 300 and 350 beds, around 330. This infrastructure is part of the transformation that the hospital complex will face in the coming decades.
This intervention is framed within the Sierrallana Modernization Plan, whose first phase, as Pascual has indicated, will be awarded before the current legislature concludes.
The counselor has pointed out that "a plan evaluating different areas" has already been made and a proposal has been defined regarding the model of the future Sierrallana Hospital, which will serve an area where 26% of the population is over 64 years old and 35% is over 74 years old.
Furthermore, the center must consolidate as "a network area hospital," connected with Valdecilla, with greater problem-solving capacity, more outpatient surgery, more day hospitalization, and a boost to telemedicine.
Pascual has acknowledged that, at this moment, the rooms do not present good "habitability conditions." The new design anticipates that they will be individual, with some rooms convertible into doubles, and will include beds for companions.
Regarding the specific location of this new unit, the head of Health has not provided details, although he has specified that it is being analyzed together with the municipalities that own the available land.
In addition, he has advanced that in later phases, once the first is completed, the plan contemplates for the entire hospital "a substantial reform of the existing building and the initial technical estimate of the material execution budget would be 49 million without VAT."
Pascual already announced in May the remodeling of the Sierrallana Day Hospital at a cost of 776 million.
