The former Minister of Culture of the Generalitat Lluís Puig (Junts) is scheduled to return this Wednesday to Catalunya, after having spent 9 years outside of Spain due to the 1-O, and to attend the plenary session of the Parlament on Thursday, according to sources consulted by Europa Press.
His return comes after Judge Pablo Llarena decided to definitively lift the arrest warrant that was in effect against him, as well as against the former president of the Generalitat and leader of Junts, Carles Puigdemont, and against the former minister and elected MEP of Junts Toni Comín.
Event in Terrassa and presence in the Parlament
According to forecasts, the first thing Puig will do this Wednesday is travel to his city, Terrassa (Barcelona), where he will participate in an event in front of the town hall. For Thursday, his intention is to be present in the Parlament, which is holding a plenary session from this Tuesday until Thursday.
Puig has held a seat in the Catalan Chamber since June 2024, but until now he could only participate in votes through delegated voting. With the lifting of the arrest warrant, he will be able to intervene and vote in person during the plenary sessions.
Discreet prior visits and return before Comín and Puigdemont
Although he is now formalizing his return, the former minister recently explained that during these 9 years abroad he had already been in Catalunya several times after the 1-O, and assured that he had stepped on "lands of the Ripollès, the Garrotxa, and the Empordà, but discreetly."
With this move, Puig is ahead of Comín in returning to Catalunya, who plans to do so on Thursday when he travels to Madrid to swear in the Constitution and thus be able to assume his seat as an MEP, and also ahead of Puigdemont, whose return is expected after the general elections on November 29.
