The PP has requested the appearance in the Parlament of the president of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa, in order for him to clarify the resignation of his until now Chief of Staff, Eduard Rivas.

In a statement released this Tuesday, the conservatives have emphasized that Rivas is "under investigation for corruption", after it became known at the end of April of this year that he was being investigated for alleged irregularities committed during his time as mayor of Esparreguera (Barcelona).

From the Govern they indicate that Rivas submitted his resignation this Monday on his own initiative and that in his place has been appointed the until now secretary of Local Governments and Relations with Aran, Xavier Amor.

The PP spokesperson in the Parlament, Lorena Roldán, has defended that "the Catalans have the right to know why the replacement is taking place", according to a press release from the party this same Tuesday.

Roldán has reproached that "Illa cannot dismiss this matter by limiting himself to pointing out that Rivas is leaving the post by his own decision and thanking him for the services rendered, and he cannot do so because it is Illa who in April said that he maintained confidence in his chief of staff".

She has emphasized that the presumption of innocence is compatible with the obligation to account for one's actions and has urged Illa not to evade explanations: "It turns out that his Chief of Staff resigns when the secrecy of the proceedings is lifted, everything is very suspicious".

"Illa has to show his face, we are talking about a person resigning from his closest confidence, under judicial investigation and whom the president himself publicly backed", she insisted, and advanced that, if the president does not appear, the PP will register a battery of questions to clarify the reasons for the replacement and ensure, in her words, that Rivas is not reassigned to another post.
