The Independent Union and Civil Servants Central (CSIF) has called on the Ministry of Justice for "an urgent reinforcement of personnel and material resources" for the court that is handling the investigation of the criminal case opened by the railway accident recorded this Wednesday in Urda (Toledo).
According to the union, "Position number 2 of the Civil and Investigation Section of the Orgaz Court of First Instance, the body in charge of the investigation within the judicial district to which the territorial demarcation of Urda corresponds, does not have all the necessary resources to face with guarantees a criminal process of this complexity," CSIF emphasizes in a statement.
The union organization stresses that the procedure "requires analyzing abundant documentation, carrying out numerous actions and coordinating activities with different bodies and professionals, to which the enormous media pressure is added".
At present, positions number 1 and number 2 of Orgaz share a combined allocation of 8 officials assigned to the civil jurisdiction, 5 officials attached to the criminal jurisdiction and 3 judicial support staff.
The president of CSIF Justice Castilla-La Mancha, Manuel Pelayo, warns that "the extraordinary workload generated by a procedure with the characteristics of the terrible railway accident cannot fall exclusively on a staff that is already completely overwhelmed with its ordinary duties, it is necessary to provide all possible resources".
So far, the only reinforcement arranged by the Ministry of Justice "is the transfer of two officials from Toledo; a totally insufficient reinforcement," CSIF laments.
The union adds, "as a sign of the saturation suffered by the judicial system due to poor and ineffective management, that the pools of the Processing and Management Corps are exhausted in Castilla-La Mancha". "Since January 2025 there have been no new additions to the employment pool, preventing people who have passed the competitive examination and have not obtained a position from registering".
For this reason, CSIF demands that, before next Monday and beyond the scarce reinforcements already sent, at least five additional officials with experience in this type of procedures be incorporated (two managers, two processors and one judicial support worker).
Likewise, the trade union confederation has requested concrete data on the reinforcements of Forensic Doctors and the rest of the staff in the Institutes of Legal Medicine (IML) of Toledo and Ciudad Real who are collaborating in the tasks of identifying the victims.
"A rigorous investigation also needs a Justice system endowed with sufficient resources," says Pelayo, who emphasizes that "it is time to support and also to let work go forward with the aim of facilitating the clarification of what happened, without issuing value judgments and without falling into political pressure".
In the same line, CSIF recalls that it has already put its legal services at the disposal of the staff of Renfe and Adif after the leak of audios despite the fact that the proceedings are under secrecy of the summary, and maintains its request for the resignation of the Minister of Transport, Óscar Puente, "for the public singling out of a worker as responsible for the tragedy".
