The investigating judge responsible for the case opened against two detainees, both of legal age, for their alleged involvement in a violent robbery committed in Ceuta last weekend against a Guardia Civil officer who was off duty, has ordered the provisional imprisonment of the two suspects while the trial is held.

As detailed by the Unified Association of Civil Guards (AUGC) in a statement, both the Public Prosecutor's Office and the private prosecution, which is exercised by AUGC itself, agreed to request the measure of provisional imprisonment. They specified that the Prosecutor's Office based its request on the seriousness of the crime of violent robbery, the high penalty provided for this type of act, and the lack of ties of the arrested individuals to the autonomous city.

In the same vein, the private prosecution joined the prosecutor's request and expanded the qualification of the facts, understanding that the actions of the arrested "also constitute an attack against an authority agent, a minor offense of injuries, and a crime of resistance against the National Police officers who carried out the arrest."

The attempted robbery occurred around 04:30 hours last Sunday at a gas station located near the Port of Ceuta, when several young people approached the Guardia Civil officer with the intention of intimidating him and stealing his belongings.

In response to the officer's refusal to hand over money, the assailants struck him several times, kicking and punching him, before fleeing the scene where the events took place.

The Guardia Civil immediately alerted the National Police Corps and, after a patrol was dispatched to the service station, the officers located the immigrants a few minutes later, separately, at different points in an area of the city where several large commercial establishments are concentrated.
