Prosecutors are asking for the imposition of two permanent prison sentences that can be reviewed, along with other additional convictions, for E.M.B., accused of ending the life of his partner and his two minor children in the town of Las Pedroñeras in 2024. The trial is expected to begin on November 10 at the Provincial Court of Cuenca.
The written submission of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, which Europa Press has obtained, details that the accused married in 2013 to the victim A.S., setting their family residence in Las Pedroñeras, a municipality where the two children of the couple were born.
According to the fiscal account, during the years of cohabitation the defendant, a butcher by profession, carried out episodes of violence and jealousy toward his wife, "controlling her life and the financial means she had for the maintenance of the minors, considering A.S. and her children to be his property to the point of deciding to take their lives".
The woman filed a complaint on October 20, 2023, after which the man was convicted four days later for a count of injuries, with the imposition of a restraining order.
For the Prosecutor’s Office, it was from that conviction that the accused would have decided to end the life of his partner and the children. Thus, on June 11, 2024, he sent a message in which he warned her: "realize this, be careful my children are going to pay for it , my children B. and C., everything is in the hands of God".
In the case there are also other threatening messages: "From now on be more attentive, I carry knives with me, when your brother said that I have to leave my house if I had wanted to kill him I would have stabbed the knife in the heart in front of your eyes. Careful it’s over, I’m going to spend the lamb feast in jail, if they take me I’m going to take everyone with me".
On June 28, again according to the public accusation, the man entered the home where his wife and the minors were, delivered 18 stab wounds to the woman and slit the throats of the two children. Subsequently, he made an opening in the wall of the patio of the property and dragged the bodies there, which were found the following day, at which point he was arrested.
On these grounds, the Prosecution charges him with three counts of murder. For two of them it seeks two sentences of permanent imprisonment subject to review and, for the third, 27 years in prison, in addition to the prohibition on going to or residing in Las Pedroñeras for 37 years. To this are added five years in prison for aggravated trespass, another year for breach of a sentence, and payment of compensation to family members totaling 450,000 euros.
