The Provincial Court of Seville has scheduled for this Tuesday, September 22, the trial against the supporter of Sevilla FC accused of calling "monkey" to the player of Real Madrid FC Vinicius Jr. during a La Liga match held in October 2023 at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán stadium, for which the Prosecutor's Office requests a sentence of one year and nine months in prison.
According to the provisional conclusions written by the Public Ministry, consulted by Europa Press, on October 21, 2023, the match between Sevilla FC and Real Madrid CF took place at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán, corresponding to the tenth round of the First Division.
Between minutes 83 and 86 of the match, the accused, who was then occupying his seat in the Gol Norte stand, "very close to the playing field" and while the Madrid player was on the grass, "repeatedly directed insults at him with evident contempt for the black color of the player's skin."
According to the prosecutor, he even threw "shouts and gestures of contempt of a racist nature towards him, generating feelings of frustration, shame, and humiliation, with the consequent undermining of intrinsic dignity."
These behaviors consisted, specifically, of imitating "the gestures that primates make" and shouting the word "monkey," in addition to reproducing onomatopoeias that evoke the sound of said animals: "uh, uh, uh, uh."
The document emphasizes that this type of expression, "as is public and notorious, has been uttered on various occasions by groups of fans from different countries to publicly offend footballers of black skin color during the course of a football match."
The events occurred, the Prosecutor's Office emphasizes, in front of the spectators who were watching the match at that moment in the stadium and "before a significant audience on television, radio, and written and digital media."
For the Public Ministry, the described conduct fits into a crime against moral integrity, for which the accused would be held as the author and for which a sentence of one year and nine months in prison is sought, in view of the hearing scheduled for this Tuesday, September 22, in the Third Section of the Provincial Court of Seville.
