The Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (AESAN) has issued a food alert over the possible presence of glass fragments in a pudding from the Arla Protein brand, a product from Denmark that has been distributed in commercial establishments across practically the entire national territory. The agency, under the Ministry of Social Rights, Consumer Affairs and Agenda 2030, has asked those who have this dessert in their homes to check its identification and refrain from consuming it if it belongs to the affected batch.

The warning, published last October 27, was activated after the Danish health authorities reported the incident through the European Food Alert Network (RASFF). The information has been passed on to the autonomous communities so that they can supervise the withdrawal of the implicated containers from the marketing channels. Although the alert refers to a possible physical contamination of the food, AESAN has not stated in its notice that any people have been injured by its consumption.

Which Arla pudding is affected by the health alert

The implicated product is "Vanilla cookie flavour pudding", from the Arla Protein brand, a refrigerated vanilla-and-cookie-flavor dessert that is marketed in individual 200-gram tubs. The health authorities have identified a specific batch, so it is essential to check the data printed on the container before consuming it.

These are the official details to identify the affected product:

  • Product: Vanilla cookie flavour pudding.

  • Brand: Arla Protein.

  • Batch number: ES26271001.

  • Best-before date: 25/04/2027.

  • Format: 200-gram tub.

  • Storage: refrigerated.

  • Country of origin: Denmark.

The most important reference is the batch ES26271001, with a best-before date of April 25, 2027, since it makes it possible to distinguish the affected containers from other products of the same brand. The alert published in Spain does not imply a generalized withdrawal of all Arla Protein puddings, but rather specifically identifies this variety and this batch.

The affected pudding has been distributed throughout almost all of Spain

According to what AESAN has communicated, the initial distribution of the affected pudding has been carried out in practically the entire national territory, so the warning is directed at consumers in different autonomous communities. The agency has not provided in the official communication a detailed list of supermarkets or establishments that have marketed the product, so its sale cannot be attributed to a specific chain without additional information.

After receiving the notification from the Danish authorities, the Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition has conveyed the notice to the competent bodies of the autonomous communities through the Coordinated Rapid Information Exchange System (SCIRI). This mechanism makes it possible to coordinate actions in the face of food risks and verify that the affected products are withdrawn from points of sale.

The purpose of the measure is to prevent consumers from being able to purchase or ingest packages belonging to the indicated batch. However, the withdrawal from stores does not guarantee that all products have ceased to be in circulation, since some may have been purchased before the alert became known and remain stored in household refrigerators.

What to do if you have the withdrawn Arla pudding at home

AESAN's recommendation is clear: do not consume the product if it matches the batch and date indicated in the alert. Consumers who have a container of Arla Protein Vanilla Cookie in their refrigerator should check the information printed on the container and verify that it does not belong to the affected batch.

In the event of having one of these products, it is recommended to set it aside to avoid its consumption and contact the establishment where it was purchased to inquire about the return options. It is also not advisable to taste a small amount to check whether it is in good condition, since the possible presence of glass fragments does not have to be visible to the naked eye.

The risk associated with this incident is physical in nature. Unlike alerts caused by bacteria such as Salmonella or Listeria, possible contamination by glass can cause injuries to the mouth, throat or digestive system if fragments are ingested. The severity will depend on factors such as the size of the particles and the amount ingested.

If a person has consumed the affected product and presents discomfort, pain, difficulty swallowing or any other symptom compatible with an injury, they should seek medical assessment. In any case, the official warning has been issued as a preventive measure and does not imply that all packages in the batch necessarily contain fragments of glass.

How the food alert works and where to check the recall

The incident has been communicated to Spain through RASFF, the European system for exchanging information on risks related to food and feed. This network allows the health authorities of different countries to share warnings when they detect products that could pose a danger to consumers' health.

In this case, Denmark reported the possible presence of fragments of glass in Arla pudding, and AESAN passed the information on to the autonomous communities to coordinate the checks and recall measures. The alert is identified with reference ES2026/647 and can be consulted on the official food alerts page of the Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition.

The alert remains focused on the Arla Protein Vanilla Cookie pudding of 200 grams, batch ES26271001 and best-before date 25/04/2027. Until the authorities communicate an update, the recommendation for any consumer who has a package with those details remains the same: do not consume it and consult the point of sale to process its return.
