The parliamentary groups of Junts, Comuns, PP, and Vox in the Parlament have presented this Tuesday various requests for appearances in the Chamber for the consellera of Interior and Public Security of the Generalitat, Núria Parlon, to detail her actions in response to the torrential rains recorded in the Tarragona area this Monday and last Saturday.

In addition to requesting her presence in committee, the four formations have processed a battery of questions with the aim of clarifying how the Govern acted during the episode of precipitation and why the ES-Alert alert system directed at the population was not activated at any time.

Junts criticizes the absence of the Govern

Junts has questioned why the Executive did not send the civil protection alert "especially after" the intense rains in the Baix Penedès and the Tarragonès (Tarragona) over the weekend when the Govern also did not send it, which is why Junts already registered another battery of questions.

The group also requests to know in detail the communications maintained between the Meteorological Service of Catalonia and the General Directorate of Civil Protection and asserts that the Govern "has been absent during this episode" and lacks a defined protocol on the use of ES-Alert.

"The Govern sends it when it is not needed and does not send it when it is necessary," the formation has assured, which has also demanded from the Executive the quantification of the damages caused, a forecast of the aid, and a detailed report of the actions that should have been promoted to reduce the impact of the intense rain.

The Comuns demand clarifications

For their part, the Comuns want Parlon to explain the reasons why ES-Alert messages were not sent to the population during the violent weather episode on Saturday and Monday.

They have also registered several questions to be answered in writing about the anticipated risk level, the decision-making mechanisms for the use of ES-Alert, and whether any internal review has been opened as a result of this episode, regarding coordination with the rest of the administrations and about personal and material impacts.

Junts and the Comuns also request that, in addition to Parlon, the general director of Civil Protection, Marta Cassany, appear before the Parlament to provide her version on the management of the episode.

The PP demands political responsibilities

For its part, the PP has demanded that the Govern "face up and take responsibility after the serious storm" and has labeled the explanations offered by the Executive about the non-activation of the ES-Alert system as unacceptable.

"We want to know who decided not to send the ES-Alert, with what information that decision was made, and why it was considered unnecessary to alert the population," claimed the spokesperson, Lorena Roldán, in a statement.

The PP will also register parliamentary questions so that the Govern clarifies the available meteorological information, the protocols that were followed, who made the final decision not to activate the alert system, and "what changes the Govern plans to introduce to prevent a similar situation from occurring again."

Vox expands the requested appearances

Finally, Vox has also registered the appearance of Parlon along with that of the councilor of Territory, Housing and Ecological Transition, Sílvia Paneque, as well as the heads of Civil Protection, Meteocat, and the Catalan Water Agency (ACA).

The group demands explanations about the management of the torrential rain episodes: "The people of Tarragona deserve to know what went wrong and who made the decisions."
