Those camping at the housing site in Palma have announced for this Friday, at 19:00, a new popular snack-dinner in Plaça d’Espanya.

The meeting, spread on social media “against repression and speculation,” takes place after about twenty people have again spent the night in the place, this time without tents, just 24 hours after the eviction ordered by the Palma City Council on the night of last Wednesday.

The activists in defense of the right to housing returned to the site at around 19:00 this Thursday, although they had to move their assembly to the porticoes of the Olivar market due to the intense rain that fell at the start of the meeting.

After analyzing various points related to the general strike called for next 11 November, they returned to the square to conclude the assembly, read a statement, share a popular dinner, and try to spend the night there, despite the presence of several police patrols deployed in the area.

As the activists themselves explain, the officers told them that, in order to be protected under the right of assembly, they had to remain standing and avoid lying down or sitting on the ground.

From the campsite, they interpreted this instruction as “new coercion” by the City Council, considering that their gathering falls within the right of assembly, and they stressed that it would also be “covered” by the Delegación de Gobierno.

Protest participants also warned that this new camp remains “without a perimeter” and “without barriers” because, according to what they denounce, Cort removed them the day before when it took away the pallets that marked the limits of the space occupied by the mobilization.
