The Kings have arrived this Sunday in Villamanta, in the Community of Madrid, to accompany the evacuated and displaced neighbors from the surrounding towns affected by the wildfires that are hitting southwestern Madrid.
The visit has a marked character of institutional support and closeness to the people who have had to leave their homes due to the evolution of the fire, the presence of smoke, or the preventive orders issued by the emergency services. In a crisis that has forced the evacuation and confinement of tens of thousands of people, the municipalities that host the displaced have become key points of attention and support.
Accompanied by Aagesen, Ayuso, and the mayor
Don Felipe and Doña Letizia have been accompanied by the third vice president and minister for Ecological Transition, Sara Aagesen; the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso; and the mayor of Villamanta, in a visit that brings together representatives from different administrations in one of the territories most affected by the emergency.
The joint presence of the Royal House, the central Government, the Community of Madrid, and the City Council seeks to convey support to the displaced neighbors and also recognize the work of municipal services, volunteers, civil protection agents, and emergency teams that have been attending to the affected population for days.
Support for the evacuees
The Kings have come to Villamanta to listen to the neighbors who have had to leave their homes and learn firsthand about their situation, their immediate needs, and the uncertainty they face while waiting to safely return to their municipalities.
The evacuations represent a strong emotional impact for families, especially when they occur quickly and without certainty about the state of their homes, animals, farms, or businesses.
