What trains are cut after the Urda accident and which connections continue to operate
The interruption affects the high-speed corridor between Madrid and Andalucía. Madrid-Toledo and Málaga-Sevilla maintain service, while Renfe enables an alternative for Ciudad Real and Puertollano.
The railway accident in Urda, in Toledo, has interrupted traffic on the high-speed corridor that connects Madrid with Ciudad Real and Andalucía. The impact requires reviewing the planned trips, but it does not mean the closure of the entire Andalusian railway network: Adif has announced that the Madrid-Toledo and Málaga-Sevilla routes continue to provide service.
The decisive question for passengers is whether their train needs to pass through the affected section. Sharing an origin or destination station with a canceled service does not mean that all connections from that city are suspended. It is also necessary to distinguish between the interruption of the infrastructure, the cancellations announced by each company, and the alternatives that are set up.
During the afternoon, a relevant new development was added: Renfe has suspended the sale of tickets for the affected services until December 13. That date is not an announcement of reopening nor does it confirm that the line will remain closed until then. The company may resume its activity earlier if Adif authorizes traffic.
Where the cutoff is and why it affects so many destinations
Adif places the accident at kilometer point 118, between Mora and Orgaz and Urda, on the Madrid-Sevilla high-speed line. In that section, a Renfe train and another from Iryo that covered the route between both capitals collided.
Renfe's statement confirms the interruption between Madrid, Ciudad Real and Andalucía. The impact must be read as a cutoff of the usual corridor, compatible with the existence of alternative services via other routes. Precisely, the operator has put in place a specific device for certain travelers from Ciudad Real and Puertollano.
To check a trip, it is advisable to have the full ticket in front of you: company, train number, date, departure station and destination. That information makes it possible to distinguish a specific cancellation from a general notice about the line.
The map of connections: interrupted corridor, operational routes and alternative
This scheme summarizes the verified connections. It is a functional map of services, not a geographic map or an exhaustive list of all trains in Spain.
Madrid-Toledo and Málaga-Sevilla: what it means that they remain operational
Adif has expressly identified these two stretches as operational in its 12:50 update. That information makes it possible to avoid an important confusion: the accident that occurred in the province of Toledo does not mean that the railway connection between Madrid and the city of Toledo is suspended.
The Málaga-Sevilla service should also not be confused with the trains that connect those cities with Madrid. They are different routes and their situation must be checked separately. RTVE likewise reports the continuity of both stretches in its information on transport alternatives.
In any case, an operational line does not guarantee that a given departure will keep its schedule or have seats available. Before going to the station, the traveler should check their company’s notices and the data of their reservation.
Ciudad Real and Puertollano have an alternative plan
Renfe has set up for Wednesday, October 28 an alternative intended for those who already had a ticket on the affected line. The departures announced from Madrid leave from Atocha Cercanías, platform 4, and should not be confused with the usual boarding of high-speed services.
The communicated schedule includes departures from Madrid at 14:00, 16:30, 18:00, 20:00 and 22:30. In the opposite direction, services were announced from Ciudad Real at 15:00, 17:00, 19:30 and 21:00.
Passengers with origin or destination in Puertollano must transfer in Ciudad Real. For the Madrid departure at 18:00, the connection between Ciudad Real and Puertollano was organized by bus. These schedules correspond exclusively to the device announced for the 28th: they do not confirm Thursday’s schedule.
What Renfe, Iryo and Ouigo have announced
The information from each operator is especially important for those who have tickets for the coming days.
Renfe has blocked sales of the affected services until December 13, but it keeps open the possibility of restoring them earlier if the infrastructure is reinstated. For now, there is no confirmed reopening date in the information consulted.
Iryo has announced the cancellation of its services between Madrid-Puerta de Atocha and the southern corridor with no forecast of restoration, according to RTVE.
Ouigo has suspended its services between Madrid and Andalusia at least until Monday, November 2 inclusive. The company has announced that it will inform passengers via the email associated with the reservation and that it guarantees the full refund of those tickets. That decision applies to its services and does not determine the schedule of the other companies.
How to know if the cut affects your trip
The check should begin with the individual notice from the operator. After that, it is advisable to consult the status of the Adif network and confirm whether there is a specific alternative for the ticket purchased.
If the journey includes several trains, each segment must be reviewed. That one continues running does not guarantee that the itinerary can be completed, especially when there is a connection with a suspended service.
It is also advisable to distinguish three situations: a canceled train, a temporarily blocked sale, and a confirmed alternative service. They do not mean the same thing nor do they allow the same decisions to be made. Before buying another transport or traveling to a different station, the passenger must check what solution their company offers and keep the communications received.
