The chairwoman of Banco Santander, Ana Botín, carried out on last Friday, October 30, the acquisition of 200,000 shares in the company for a total amount of 2,042,000 euros, as shown in the records of the Comisión Nacional del Mercado de Valores (CNMV).
According to the information provided to the regulator, the transaction was executed through the company Bafimar via two separate purchases, at prices ranging between 10.25 and 10.16 euros per share, which results in an average cost of 10.21 euros per share.
In one of the transactions, the firm acquired a block of 100,000 shares at 10.25 euros, while in the other it acquired another 100,000 shares at a price of 10.16 euros per financial instrument.
If this transaction is added to that of the previous Thursday, the first executive of Banco Santander has added a total of half a million shares to her portfolio in just two trading days. That day, Botín bought 300,000 shares at an average price of 10.36 euros per share, for which she paid 3,108,000 euros.
These purchases are interpreted in the market as a sign of confidence in the bank’s future performance, despite the fact that the shares fell 12% on the stock exchange last week after the publication of results. Although the company increased its net profit by 16% in the first nine months, to 11,176 million euros, supported by the retail business and investment banking, analysts pointed out that it did not manage to beat revenue forecasts and highlighted the uncertainty stemming from the electoral outcome in Brazil.
This Wednesday, Santander shares were rising again and were at the top of the Ibex 35’s gains, up 5.26% at 13:30 hours, to 10.76 euros per share, boosted by the results of the "midterm" in the United States.
